Pancreatic Disease from being Inbred?
I got my lovebirds from someone on an online advertisement thats from my country.... the parents clearly looked related, I suspect brother and sister. Both were aquaturquoise pieds and they were nearly identical. Mind you, I don't think this is a purposely done thing, she may have got her birds from the same petstore without knowing their genetic background.
So, Mango and Munch started showing strange droppings where the feces was very pale, sometimes white and the urates were loose and blended in with the urine, which was often cloudy. They are both suspected of having a genetic disease of the pancreas and I was told they will not live a full life. I was told their pancreas was not formed right when they were in the egg and over time during their life it will shrink and disappear eventually and this will kill them. I was told most birds with this genetic disease die very young.
Has any of you ever heard of this?

Re: Pancreatic Disease from being Inbred?
Ciao Casey,
I know, what I'm going to write is opposite to the general knowledge, however in my experience, I deem, siblings pairs don't absolutely mean that they will generate sick offsprings;
In my experience, mutated pairs ( lutino x lutino or DEC x DEC nigrigenis) generate offsprings sicker than wild sibling pairs;
the Pied and the Aquaturquoise roseicollis are mutations very strong just as much as the wild type is;
Thus I deem, your birds even though have been gotten from two siblings they can be healthy;
I have seen a lot of pictures of your birds and I have to admit that neither Mango nor Munch seem to have deseases;
Yes!! I know your birds got intestinal troubles but I deem it doesn't mean that these problems are surely linked to the fact that they have been gotten from inbred;
in your shoes, I would be quiet because I'm sure that your birds will live for long.

i've never heard such a thing, if the chances of relatives mating disease are very high percentage, as well as the dead, both embryonic and neonatal, and various sufferings are seen with the naked eye, such as poor appetite, broken feathers , sleepiness, depression,,,,, but yours is a beauty! For qaunto faecal always depends on what they eat, some vegetables have laxative but by no means have diarrhea and turds can easily vary from day to day based on what they eat.
________________

well its not diarrhea, thats the colour of everything, then they dry funny. but suppose it could be caused by diet, though these are every day. only change is if they eat coloured fruit and veggies. carrots make them orange! blackberries make purple lol
so you think everything is fine? that actually makes me very relieved, i have been looking for months and months and months with no avail as to what's going on lol

the droppings seem to be normal;
I would like to taste them to make sure that everything is ok... (I'm kidding)...
In long story short...I believe they are very fine.
