Favourite?
What is your favourite mutation(s)?
Just curious, as a lot of you are breeders, and genetics and mutations are fascinating.
My favourite I think would have to be any of the edged varieties in peach faces (roseicollis) and the pied varieties. Also after seeing photos of the West German Fallow, that is a very beautiful mutation that I love. That would have to be my dream mutation lol
As for fischers and masks. Fischers, I LOVE the lutinos. They're so pretty. Masks, I like the normal wild green! I love the contrast with them.
I actually think that might be the next kind of lovebird I want in the far future, a green Masked Lovebird. I seen one at the bird show, and he was really beautiful. Photos online do no justice for those bold colours! How are they as pets? You don't hear much about them in the pet trade. More people I think breed them for mutation and show than I ever hear about breeding for pet. Are they harder to rear? But I digress! I can look in the sticky threads for more information.

It's hard to answer you because there are a lot of beatiful mutation;
I'm going to write my judgment however I know I could suddenly change it;
As far the peach faces (roseicollis) I deem the best mutation is the "cremino" ( I know also other foreign forums call it just as "cremino" and it is the combination of two mutation; they are : blue series and INO).
It's fantastic to have, at the same time, the presence of two mutations (recessive + sex linked) and the red eyes on the white face transform this bird in an amazing animal ;
As far the Fischers and Mask my mind is struggling to decide among Pastel , lutino and PastelIno; It's hard to decide! I deem it's impossible:); I consider these three mutations equal to each other.
I would like to introduce in this thread also the black cheeks (nigrigenis); They absolutely are my preferred lovebird kinds and it is the reason that I breed them
It's fantastic to see their orange bib on their own chests; but it is very hard for me to choose a mutation among the nigrigenis; Anyway the pied (maybe) has more points than the other mutations but I'm not sure because other times my eyes fall in love for the yellow (black eyes) and for the lutino;
How is it possible to have a preference sure? ahahahaha...it's impossible for me
P.S: Debora had a mask lovebird just as a pet, unfortunately he passed away:( ; I remember he was tamed but he was afraid a bit of the hands; so I think the mask lovies are (maybe) more shy than the peach faces.
Re: Favourite?
i think i will stick with peachies as pets then
oh i understand its hard to choose favourites among mutations lol theyre all gorgeous!
ive never seen a black cheek in our area. its rare to see masks or fischers even. lots of peachies though lol
